{"id":35,"date":"2015-09-22T21:59:30","date_gmt":"2015-09-22T18:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/taurlin.org\/?page_id=35"},"modified":"2020-09-15T15:11:28","modified_gmt":"2020-09-15T12:11:28","slug":"professional","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/taurlin.org\/?page_id=35","title":{"rendered":"Speech research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Until recently, I was a PhD student at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qmu.ac.uk\/casl\/default.htm\">Clinical Audiology, Speech and Language (CASL) Research Centre<\/a>, at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qmu.ac.uk\/\">Queen Margaret University<\/a> in Edinburgh, UK.<\/p>\n<p>I am also a member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/speech.math.aalto.fi\/\">Speech modelling consortium<\/a> based at the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis, Aalto University.<\/p>\n<h2>Research interests<\/h2>\n<p>I study articulatory and acoustic phonetics and am especially interested in speech motor control and related topics such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>pre-speech articulatory phenomena,<\/li>\n<li>speech reaction times,<\/li>\n<li>oral motor control of flute playing, and<\/li>\n<li>inter- and intra-speaker variation in speech production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am also interested in computational research. I am currently collaborating with others on a speech analysis toolkit and am looking for opportunities to more actively pursue my interest in physical modelling of the human vocal tract.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research software<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the main maintainer of the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/giuthas\/satkit\">Speech Articulation ToolKIT<\/a> which is a Python package for analysing (currently) ultrasound speech data (and other similar things in the future).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Until recently, I was a PhD student at Clinical Audiology, Speech and Language (CASL) Research Centre, at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, UK.
